As a planner and designer, I have seen so much waste happen in the wedding industry. From floral displays to trash and everywhere in between, we need to do better. Here are a few ways you can make your wedding more sustainable.
In lieu of favors, plant a tree or make a donation to a non-profit of your choice in their honor.
Reuse your ceremony florals. Your aisle flowers can be used on and around a table in your reception such as sweetheart, head, cake, etc.
Choose a sustainable wedding gown from a company like bridal designer like Scout or Catherine Kowalski or a bridal shop like Glo Bridal. You could also buy a used gown on a website such as Preowned Wedding Dresses.
Keep all invitations online or if going to have stationery use seed paper.
Rent your tablescape details such as linens, plates, glassware, and flatware.
Have a way for your guests to donate to a non-profit healing the earth like Coral Gardeners, Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, and the Rainforest Alliance. You could also register your wedding on The Good Beginning. Here are some other great ideas for an eco-friendly wedding registry.
Work with sustainable vendors. One of our favorite sustainable caterers Forklift Catering.
