Elope on Cape Cod/Islands

Dreaming of getting married on the Cape dunes? Let's talk more about what you need to know:

  1. Time of Year : Most people love the Cape and Islands in the Summer (June-September), but Spring and Fall are also wonderful times to elope as well (less crowds and still decent weather) - the only thing to note about Spring and Fall is that many places are seasonal and will be closed for the season or have limited hours.

  2. Location : There are so many beautiful spots, but these are my favorites. West Dennis Beach, The Knob, Madaket Beach on Nantucket or a sunset cruise downtown, Chatham, Cahoon Hollow Beach in Wellfleet, and Paine's Creek Beach in Brewster. From there, you can figure out where you want to stay whether it be a hotel or airbnb/vrbo.

  3. Activities : Depending on what you choose for a location, you can decide on what to do after the ceremony portion of your day.

Here are some ideas:

Falmouth-Wine Tasting at Cape Cod Winery and Dinner at Landfall in Woods Hole

Wellfleet-Dinner/Drinks at the Beachcomber followed by wine tastings at Truro Vineyards

Chatham-Farm Dinner with Chatham Bars Inn, take a stroll downtown

Brewster- have lunch and ice cream at Kate's Seafood

Nantucket-visit Cisco Brewers, have quick bite to eat at Stubby's, and ice cream at the Juice Bar

4. Hiring a JOP/Officiant : Whether you are having a friend marry you or would rather hire

someone who does this for a living, they will give you steps on what to do/where to go prior to

the elopement. Your elopement planner can also help you with this. You can get your marriage

license up to 60 days prior to the ceremony date. If traveling from out of state, I do recommend

obtaining the license in your home state

5. Prioritize Vendors : Photographer, Planner, Florist, Cake, Music, Food

Photographer: Do you have a certain style of photography you are looking for?

Planner: Do you want someone to help you plan your day/find vendors/create a plan/and be

there the day of? Help you find the perfect location to get ready and married?

Florist: Do you want flowers? What style florals do you like?

If you are choosing to elope, you are already choosing what's best for you and your partner. It is still most important to set a budget even for an elopement first and foremost. From there, prioritize what matters most to you. Do you have a specific vendor in mind?

Elopements don't just have to be two people. If you want to have 12 of your closest friends and family, do it!
